Made Men: An Urban Fantasy Novel (Jim Shaw Universe Book 1 By Seth Creamer

This book is about a man named Jim Shaw. He lives in a world where paranormal creatures are real and known to everyone. There are laws that protect humans from the supernatural. When the non human citizens do something like murder, Jim is called in as an independent contractor to help the police figure out which paranormal creature is responsible and how to kill it. Jim is used to doing things his own way, he doesn't care about rules or regulations and he's got a foul mouth. He's, rude and has no regard for the rules but he gets the job done. With a supernatural killer on the loose killing seemingly indiscriminately, it's up to him to find out what this is, kill it and put an end to the murder of innocent victims.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Jim is an ass. That's the first thing I thought when I started reading the book. He's a jerk he should be an unlikable hero but he's not. All his insults are actually what made the book quite funny. He's a jerk and he knows it and he's not afraid to laugh at others and occasionally himself. He knows what he's doing when it comes to paranormal creepy crawlies and when he doesn't he tries his best to find out. I really enjoyed his partner from the police force Amanda. She's a tough chick and doesn't take shit from nobody. I loved the interaction between her and Jim they insult each other but don't take it too seriously and they work well together trying to piece together clues to which paranormal creature may be the culprit. Father Declan was also another interesting character. He was Jim's moral sounding board but he was also badass himself which lead to some pretty interesting moments between him and Jim. As well as several other minor characters all the characters in the book are well developed and have a role to play in the story and trying to find the killer. I loved the ending it was only slightly before the end that I kind of had an idea of who the killer might be and it was fun when I turned out to be right. I like that it wasn't expected and that thinking back there were several signs that pointed to the killer so that was interesting. I enjoyed the world in which this story exists. The idea that paranormal creatures are out in the open and that there are laws to protect humans was really cool. This was a really fun book and I look forward to reading the next book in the series and see what other trouble Jim can get into.
