The Krinar Experiment by Charmaine Pauls

This story is set before the Great Panic. Drako is sent to earth on a reconnaissance mission to find out if the Krinar and humans can coexist together but his pod crashes and he's badly injured and captive by the South African Secret Service. Knowing only torture by the hands of humans Drako's only goal is to escape and inform the Elders that humans are barbaric. Knowing that Drako isn't human the SASS get the help of a nurse from a nearby hospital. Ilse is a nurse at a hospital where drugs are in low supply and patients sometimes get turned away. When the SASS come and ask for her colleagues help she volunteers herself instead. What they show her is atrocious and the conditions they've left Drako in horrify her. After trying to help she's sent away. On her second visit she is forced to make it look like she's helping the SASS but her plan is to help him escape. When he does so thinking she has betrayed him and is as bad as the other humans he returns to Krina and Ilse becomes a fugitive in her country. When Drako returns to get revenge he learns that humans are more than they seem and a love blossoms between the unlikely pair.

This book so fast paced! It was crazy so much action and the side story about the black market was awesome. I hated that Drako was so unfamiliar with humans that he couldn't realize that Ilse hadn't betrayed him but only acted a part so that she could rescue him. When he returns to seduce her as revenge and then turn her over to his friend as his Charl I was sad for the both of them. Then she refuses and returns to earth and is captured by SASS! I was so happy when Drako showed up to save her. This book was definitely a rollercoaster of emotions. A great addition to the Krinar universe.
